Kayakers wanted for survivalist tv show

Kevin Buckalew  | Published on Sunday, March 2, 2014

Hello,

I'm working in the casting office for the Discovery Channel survivalist show, "Naked and Afraid" and I wanted to reach out to the Washington kayaking community to see if anyone may want to take part in our show. We're looking for an outdoors-y type who wants to take part in a unique survivalist experience and we wanted to reach out to you and your community so we can find someone who is different from the show's usual contestants and we'd love to have your community represented on the show.

In case you're not familiar with the show, each episode features a man and a woman being dropped off in some wild place completely naked and left with the task of trying to survive for 21 days. Some of the locations from season 1 include the Serengeti, the jungles of Costa Rica and the island of Borneo. Each environment presents unique challenges to the people who are dropped there, including how to find food and water, building a shelter and finding some makeshift clothes. So we're looking for people who have great survival skills, understand nature and want to take part in this unique survivalist experience.

Metal Flowers Media is handling the casting call and we're looking for men and women between the ages of 20ish and 40ish who want to take part in this survival show. Just to be clear, this is not a realty competition. Those who are selected to appear in an episode will be taken to their destination and dropped there for 21 days, where they must learn to survive off the land. Those who make the cut will be paid for their episode and during the casting process they'll be flying finalists to Los Angeles to meet with the producers. We're looking to cast someone right away and the show shoots off and on from March to August, 2014. We would need a 3-week time commitment, but of course, we can work within the schedule of any interested candidates.

If you know of any kayakers or campers who may be interested in this, please have them contact me at kevin@metalflowersmedia.com. Or if you have any other ideas on how I can reach out to the community, please let me know.  I greatly appreciate any help that the Washington Kayak Club can do to help us find someone great to be on our show. If you have any additional questions, you can reach me by email or by phone at 213-220-7067 to talk about this more.

Thanks for your help with this.
