This is a combination car camping and paddling event. You may do both or just participate in the Raft Up to break the Guinness World Record for having the most kayaks and canoes rafted together in one place. The current record is 1,902 boats from New York State and there's a reported 2,099 boats from Michigan State that is yet to be verified. Dear Washington Kayak Club members:
Vashon would like to invite you to join us on August 17th, 2014, as we set a new world’s record for the number of canoes and kayaks rafted up in one place! The place will be the lovely confines of inner Quartermaster Harbor, just off Jensen Point. We’re aiming for 2,500 boats – yep 2,500 – and we need your help to get there! The event is a “design your own adventure” kind of day, allowing those with great interest in paddling to make a day of it on the waters in and around Quartermaster, while those who are just trying out paddling can push off from Jensen Point, paddle around a bit and join a record setting raft up just off the point.
The festivities begin on Saturday, August 16th with a music festival and a rare opportunity to camp on Vashon at the Open Space and school district properties. This event raises critically needed funds for Vashon Youth & Family Services, the Island’s largest human service agency. Learn more and register at www.vyfs.org/raftup .

Imagine you being a part of this effort!
Our primary objective is to be in the Raft Up which officially is at 1:30 PM Sun in the Quartermaster Harbor, Vashon Island. However, there is also a Music Festival on Sat that starts at 2:00 PM and after it gets dark, we will attempt to have a night paddle to literally stir up some bioluminescence. The full moon may hamper this effort. For those interested, you can camp at the Dash Point State Park. I've reserved RV site #78 that has additional spaces for two tents, first come first served, no charge. The event registration is only for the Raft Up so we can be represented as coming from the WKC/BEWET/Other Club. You will have to register yourself for the Music Festival and/or to camp on Vashon.
Here's what we plan to do. Schedule: Sat Aug 16 - Camp Dash Pt State Park, Paddle to Quartermaster Harbor/Vashon Island for Music Festival, Night Paddle for Bioluminescence; Sun Aug 17 - Raft Up.
