Description: Introduction to kayak handling skills and strokes in moving water along a coastal environment - where the sea meets the shore. Learn how to read the water, develop skills to maneuver your kayak through some surf, and in moving water in rocky environments. Learn to identify safe zones, play zones, transition zones, and hazard zones.
Lunch/Snacks: Please bring lunch with you, and high energy snacks - like dark chocolate. Also bring drinking water or possibly a thermos of something hot and delicious.
Prerequisites: Wet-exit practice, self and assisted rescue practice, ability to paddle forward and backward in a straight line, …and willingness to get wet!
Gear Required: Helmet, gloves, drysuit (or wetsuit if that’s what you normally use).
**Please also bring the safety gear that you would normally have with you on a coastal paddle - think light weight, but functional and multipurpose gear.
