Hood Head/Port Ludlow Staycation

Saturday, we'll paddle from Port Gamble to the Hood Head CMT site, set up camp, paddle out to happy hour/dinner in Port Ludlow, then paddle back to camp with the glorious sunset.  Sunday morning, we will break camp and paddle out to brunch in Port Gamble.

Sign-up Requirements: This is a 16 nautical mile paddle (12.5 n.m Saturday, 3.5 n.m Sunday). To sign up for this paddle, you must be an intermediate or beyond paddler with wet-exit, re-entry and rescue skills, be able to paddle a sustained 2.5 knots pace.  Qualification questions will be sent to registrants whose paddling experience, gear and qualifications are not known from prior paddles.  Registrations without answers to the qualification questions may be deleted.

Immersion Gear: Wearing immersion gear (a wetsuit or a dry-suit over insulating clothing) is mandatory on this paddle.




Schedule and Itinerary:

Saturday

11:00 a.m. - meet at the Port Gamble Kayak Launch (west end of the lower old log yard).

12:00 p.m - launch and paddle 3.5 n.m. to the Hood Head CMT Campsite..

~1:30 p.m. - land at the Hood Head CMT Campsite and set up camp.

~3:00 p.m. - paddle 4.5 n.m. to Port Ludlow.

~5:00 to 6:30 p.m. - happy hour and dinner at the fancy restaurant in the fancy waterfront hotel at Port Ludlow.

~6:30 to 8:30 p.m. - paddle 4.5 n.m. back to camp with the sunset.

Sunday

Morning - break camp and pack up.

~10:00 to 11:30 a.m. - paddle 3.5 n.m. back to Port Gamble, load kayaks, and, optional, catch lunch at the nice restaurant in the Port Gamble General Store.

Conditions and Contingency:  This paddle is contingent upon acceptable wind and weather conditions.

Equipment Requirements:  Kayak, paddle, pfd, paddlefloat, pump, sprayskirt, boat light, unglasses, sunscreen, water and snacks, picnic lunch, warm hat, waterproof hat, VHF radio if you have one, immersion gear, camping gear, water for camping (can be refilled at dinner), and an extra change of warm clothes in a dry-bag.

Waiver and Indemnification: This is not a guided paddle nor a kayaking-skills lesson. In signing up for this paddle, each sign-up-ee certifies that he/she has the required kayaking skills and experience described in the "Sign-up Requirements".  Kayaking activities have inherent risk and each sign-up-ee acknowledges that kayaking activities have risk of injury or even death, and signs up and participates entirely and exclusively at his/her own risk.
