The Washington Kayak Club, based in Washington State, is a volunteer organization dedicated to all forms of paddle craft in the Pacific Northwest.  The WKC is run by it's members for it's members, and provides coordination and facilitates activities amongst it's membership.  Some of our benefits for members include:

  • The WKC roster is published annually in March with organized Whitewater and Sea Kayaking trips throughout the year.
  • The WKC bulletin, published 9 times a year with information on current events, safety, conservation, boating techniques, and updates to the trip and pool schedules
  • Discounts on pool sessions
  • Access to training and clinics
  • 10% of your yearly dues goes directly to conservation efforts

Please join us at the General Membership meetings/presentations, which are usually held on the fourth Friday of the month, September through May, at the REI store in Seattle, located in the second floor meeting room at 7:00 pm.  Meetings/gatherings feature speakers, trip information, kayaking videos, brief updates on club business, etc.  For up-to-date information on speakers, check-out the calendar section of this website.  The WKC Paddle Board also meets on the third Thursday of the same months.

The club offers both whitewater and sea kayaking classes and skill building clinics, as well as opportunities to refine your skills on the slalom course.  Watch the monthly bulletin and this website for details and sign up early for these popular events.  The club does not provide any boats or kayaking gear, however, many ads of items for sale are listed in the back of the bulletin and in the "For Sale" forum of this website.

Pool sessions are held Wednesday evenings, Saturday and Sunday mornings from October through early April, at four pools in the Puget Sound area.  They are great opportunities to practice self-rescues, assisted rescues, or kayak rolls.  You may bring whitewater or sea kayaks, as long as they are thoroughly cleaned of all leaves, pine needles, food wrappers, mud, sand, etc.  Check the Pools section of our website for schedule details by location.

The club also offers kayak polo for all WKC members.  Never played kayak polo before?  No problem!  It's one of the best ways to build boat control skills that allow you to be much more dynamic when you hit the river (or the sea!).  A roll isn't required, but for those who have an unsteady roll, polo is a great way to work on that - you'll be surrounded by 7 other people who are ready and willing to help with a bow rescue (as long as you're on their team - Just kidding!).  Check out the website's calendar for more information!

If you would like to learn more about the Washington Kayak Club, please review our website for information about trips, membership, meetings, forums and pool sessions. You may attend any of the pool sessions or the general membership meetings as a guest, however, we strongly encourage you to join the club to enjoy the other benefits

All these activities are possible due to the efforts of many VOLUNTEERS.  As you become more familiar with the club and its activities, any assistance you can offer is very much appreciated Wink!
